The Blue Devils celebrated many successes as teams and as individuals in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Our fall season featured phenomenal freshman Sara Kolar, who qualified for state in golf. Sara’s performances were breathtaking.
The Girls Cross Country team finished 8th place overall, paced by sophomore Haley Ganey's 35th place finish and junior Arie Mohr's 36th place finish. Their times moved them up to the 3rd and 4th fastest girls’ times in MRH history.
The Boys' Cross Country team placed 4th overall in Districts, qualifying them for the State Championship in Columbia. The team was led by four district medalists with Alex Fuoss finishing 16th, Graham Colvin finishing 20th, Enzo Gilbonio coming in at 21st and Silas Tanner grabbing the last District medal in 30th place. The other members of the state-qualifying team included Logan Sharp (32nd), Trey Maxwell (39th), and Aiden Bernard (51st).
Coached by Brandon McClure and Tamara Cushman, Daishaun Wilbourn and Leo Lungu wrestled their way all the way to Columbia with heart, perseverance and integrity. Daishaun finished his wrestling career with more than 100 wins.
For the second year in a row, MRH head basketball coach Joe Sausele was named 2024-2025 Co-Coach of the Year for Class 4, District 4 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA). Sausele demonstrates a level of care, concern and knowledge of basketball to help support our students on and off the court. The Blue Devils were led by a do-it-all senior Micah Boone and decorated junior Abraham Nayou. Both players received All Conference selections. Nayou, who was named player of the year in the SCAA, was 3rd in the area in scoring… averaging 29.2 points per game.
Our girls soccer team finished 2nd in the SCAA conference as they were led by several All Conference and All District Selections:
All District:
1st Team: Riley Sabath, Jaleic Wilson, and Zahava Kiernan
2nd Team: Haley Ganey and Marlie Duggin
Honorable Mention: Emily Dillon
All Conference:
1st Team: Emily Dillon, Riley Sabath, Jaleic Wilson
2nd Team: Haley Ganey, Zahava Kiernan, Lucy Metcalf
Sophomore Alex Fuoss showed Blue Devil pride and perseverance as he finished 12th at state in the 3200m and set a school record and a personal record.
In the fall, Samantha Miller claimed victory in the state championship for Switch Sports: Chambara.
Speech/Debate and Mock Trial coach Rich McCollum was selected to be the NFHS Missouri Representative and he has been reelected to the NSDA Eastern MO Board of Directors for the second year in a row. His teams achieved new heights this year by having nine MRH students travel to Missouri State University to compete at the MSHSAA Speech and Debate State Championships. Three returned as state champs! Maia Truemper and Vera Pantazis won the championship in Policy Debate, going undefeated. Defending state champion Odessa Javier repeated her accomplishment to capture first place in Original Oratory (Persuasive Speaking).
A record five other Blue Devils reached the final rounds in speech and debate events, placing in the top eight in the state. They were: Jordynn Phipps, Dizzy Funke, Enzo Gilbonio, Jo Kaplan, and Graham Colvin. Javier, Pantazis, and Truemper also medaled in other events. MRH finished second in the Speech Team competition and third in the Debate Team category.
MRH students spent three days at the Jackson County Courthouse in Independence, MO., competing against the best 16 mock trial teams from across the state. The MRH Blue Devils defeated Rockhurst High School of Kansas City to emerge as all-class state champions.
The quest began with preliminary and regional rounds in St. Louis County. Throughout the season, the undefeated MRH team won trials against Rockhurst, Priory, Clayton, Excelsior Springs, Kadimah Academy, SLUH, Chaminade, John Burroughs, and defending state champions Francis Howell North. The winning varsity team included: Dakota Colbert, Odessa Javier, Graham Colvin, Enzo Gilbonio, Joseph Lin, Lucy Schmidt, Jack Funke, Kaelyn Kalagian, Daniel Matz, Vera Pantazis, Chance Terelmes, and Jo Kaplan.
The Missouri State Champion MRH Mock Trial team traveled to Phoenix, AZ., to compete against the champions from 48 states and territories at the High School Mock Trial National Championships. The MRH team finished with a two-win, two-loss record, dropping in trials against California and Oklahoma, who both finished in the top 10.
Go Blue Devils!
